The Cumbrian Goat Experience is a Rare and Native Goat Breed Farm giving a truly remarkable Holiday Adventure. Set nestling in a superb position, at the foot of England’s highest mountain (Scafell), and on the edge of the deepest lake (Wastwater), in the heart of the Wasdale Valley, the peaceful part of the Lake District National Park is Woodhow Farm and Cottages, forming part of a working Lakeland Farm with a unique twist. The Farm has existed since 1757 and has changed over the centuries. However, many original features remain, from the original water pump to the barns that form the heart of the Farm. The principle animal on our unique farm is the Goat! We have over 250 Goats all of which form the Goat Triangle of Meat, Dairy and Wool (fibre) and we also help the conservation of the goat by delivering an educational experience on our farm. Our Boer Goats deliver the superb tasting meat our Saanens, Golden Guernsey’s and Alpines delivery the Dairy side of the Farm, and our Angoras (and soon Cashmere) deliver the wool, we also allow a certain number of our Toggenburg’s to do our Goat trekking (contact us for more details) - We also have a flock of over 700 Herdwick Sheep a traditional site for any Lakeland Farm which have been bread to a high standard and kept in line by our experienced Shepherd Tom and our new addition to the farm are our Rare Breed Tamworth Pigs, and our superb British Saddlebacks both are naturally reared pigs supplying mouth watering, succulent pork and bacon a pure Rare Breed Meat- The whole farm is entered into the Environmental Stewardship Scheme run by DEFRA, and we are proud to do our part for the Environment. By conserving the wildlife (biodiversity) and by maintaining and enhancing the landscapes we can add quality and character, providing an outstanding environment for the breeding and raising of Goats. The Cumbrian-Goat-Experience and the Farm are aiming to be Green and Organic over time, allowing us to encourage Farm Educational Visits and Work Experience under this scheme, and providing courses that promote the Environment and the way of life at the Cumbrian-Goat-Experience The Cumbrian Goat Experience consists of 158 acres of unspoilt awe-inspiring Some of our Broadleaved Woodland is very old and species rich.
